Episode 55

Episode 55:

You talkin’ about biased sources, bro?

This week Jack talks about the new bill C-16 beings (not quite yet) passed in Canada. C-16, aimed to include more facets of the LGBTQ community into Canada’s code for human rights, is allegedly a gateway for “regular” folk to lose their freedom of speech. According to Jack, and various right-wing blog articles, C-16 will lead to people being imprisoned for using incorrect gender pronouns! This is definitely not the Canada Jack wants to be a part of… Meanwhile, Gavin talks about the 2.4 billion Euro fine Google received from the European Union. We talk about what this may mean for Google’s future and their methods of promoting advertisements.

Afterwards, Jack interviews Gavin during the Kao Lui Corner. According to various “sources” Gavin is allegedly a Love Guru? No one really knows, you’ll just need to listen and decide for yourself!

Additional Sources

Canadians could be jailed or fined for using the incorrect gender pronouns.

Here’s what you need to know about the Google – E.U. fine.

Loose Ends

The Governor General was briefly mentioned during Jack’s topic. It is true that the GG is a representative of the Queen. However, the GG is appointed by the Queen on the advice of Canada’s Prime Minister.

Prime Minister vs President (Encyclopedia Britannica): A prime minister, by definition, must be able to command a legislative majority. In a parliamentary system, the prime minister sets the national agenda, appoints cabinet officials, and governs at the behest of a party or a coalition of parties. In parliamentary systems, presidents—if they exist—serve as largely ceremonial heads of state.

And just in case Jack doesn’t believe me regarding the word query…
Query: a question, especially one addressed to an official or organization.
