Episode 50

Episode 50:

Robin (episode 37) rejoins the DIU gang for the big 5-0 episode. We briefly cover various ongoing Jack C subjects such as the results of the Instagram model project and a biotin update. Robin, returning from a two-week trip to South Korea and Japan, also gives his take on the two Asian countries.

Jack brings in the topic about the K-Pop group, BTS, winning a Billboard Award. Their victory in the Top Social Artist category over the likes of Justin Bieber, Selena Gomez, Ariana Grande, and Shawn Mendes caused a huge commotion among social media users who didn’t like seeing some Asians win the award. Meanwhile, Gavin brings in a new study which suggests that social media applications may be causing significant mental health issues for young adults. We talk about an appropriate approach and mindset for using social media… and what it means to have FOMO (Fear of Missing Out).

Afterwards, Jack and Robin answer a fan question on this week’s segment of the Kao Lui Corner.

Episode 49

Episode 49:

Jack brings in the issue of over-sensitivity as we talk about Toronto Blue Jays’ centre-fielder Kevin Pillar being suspended for uttering a homophobic slur during a MLB game. Jack suggests that people need to chill-the-fuck down as the only reason Pillar was suspended is because the people (millennials) are too sensitive about progressive ideologies. Meanwhile, Gavin talks about how humidity and the heat. Being sweaty, the inability to dress nicely, and fending off insects are just some points covered on this issue.

Afterwards, the Love Guru gives us five tips we should consider before getting into a relationship.

Episode 48

Episode 48:

Gavin confronts Jack about why part two of the California vlog still hasn’t been released. Jack also retracts a point about Gen Z kids and drug use he made on episode 31.

Jeremy Lin recently mentioned that he faced more racism during his college career when compared to his NBA career. Jack is distraught to hear that racism (still) exists in the 21st century and can’t believe that college students can be racist. Meanwhile, Gavin brings in the issue of how a school district in California may be overstepping their boundaries by disciplining students who “liked” some Instagram posts. The conversation spirals into a discussion about online behaviour and its real-world implications.

Afterwards, the Love Guru tackles a listener’s question in this week’s segment of the Kao Lui Corner.

As promised, Jack delivers part two of the California vlog!
